Faculty of Education – University of Fribourg
FribourgThe Faculty of Education provides within a dedicated academic department teacher training programs to primary, secondary and baccalaureate schools level.
Teaching and Research under one roof
The Faculty of Education and its Department of Teacher Education enjoy an excellent reputation. Besides high-quality programs of study in French or German, leading to teaching qualifications at primary, secondary and baccalaureate schools level, students can take advantage of a wide range of specialized courses offered by the University. Our professors are involved in various scientific networks at both the national and international level. Thus, the results of the latest research flow directly into their teaching.
Professional-level practical training
The Department of Teacher Education offers future teachers the optimal combination of academic education and practical training. Training is strongly anchored within the teaching field. Not long after they start, students are already in a classroom teaching situation – closely mentored by training staff and experienced teachers. In addition, the course covers a range of pedagogical approaches and disciplinary didactics, thus preparing teachers to cope with the educational challenges of today and tomorrow.
Diverse opportunities
The close contact with schools both within and outside the canton of Fribourg not only promotes solid practical education, but at the same time makes it easier for students to find teaching positions.
Friendly Atmosphere
Because it is comparatively small size, the Department of Teacher Education has a close-knit, friendly feel about it. It is committed to providing individual guidance and personal contact between staff and students.
A bilingual university city
Fribourg’s roughly 10,000 students shape the character of the city like almost nowhere else and give it an international flavor. Located between Bern and Lausanne, the city is in a fantastic position, offering a safe and affordable out-of-town living environment, while being close enough to benefit from big-city amenities. It presents a large range of opportunities to take part in cultural activities, and the surrounding lakes and mountains are ideal for those who appreciate outdoor recreation.
Extensive expertise in the field of education
In addition to its courses in Teacher Education, our Faculty also offers programs in Remedial Education at School, Special Education, Speech and Language Therapy and Education Sciences (with program in Pedagogy/Psychology as teaching field at baccalaureate schools). Master’s degrees earned in the faculty can also open the way to a Ph.D.
