University of Teacher Education Fribourg

Fribourg

The University of Teacher Education (HEP I PH FR) is a tertiary-level bilingual training institution. It provides initial and in-service training to primary-school teachers and, for some disciplines, training in secondary teaching, pedagogical documentation, and multimedia. The institution is also active in research and development.

Teaching

The bachelor’s degree offered provides a high-quality curriculum that focuses on both theory and practice. Training is strongly anchored within the teaching field, with one quarter of the course consisting of teaching internships supervised by professors and primary-school teachers. In addition, the course covers a range of pedagogical approaches and disciplinary didactics, thus preparing teachers to cope with the educational challenges of today and tomorrow.

Research

HEP I PH FR works closely with the University of Fribourg, particularly in the areas of training and research. This collaboration has led to the establishment of the Interinstitutional Institute of Multilingualism, the main objective of which is to promote research in the field of foreign-language didactics and issues related to linguistic and cultural plurality. In addition, the professors at HEP I PH FR are involved in various scientific networks at both the national and international level.

Student life

Located between Bern and Lausanne, HEP I PH FR is in a fantastic position, offering a safe and affordable out-of-town living environment, while being close enough to benefit from big-city amenities. The nearby city of Fribourg presents a large range of opportunities to take part in cultural activities, and the surrounding lakes and mountains are ideal for those who appreciate outdoor recreation.
